Sometimes I wonder if I like editing more than anything else. This is because it is my chance to help other people voice their thoughts and ideas in clear and concise ways.
My favorite thing about editing is getting to read so many different voices and working with the brilliant people behind them. I've worked with all kinds of writing for all kinds of output: academic, NGOs, manuscripts of novels, PhD candidates, scripts for screen and radio, magazine articles, SME communications.
Having a journalism background has helped me find narratives and shape articles, of course, but it has also instilled within me an efficiency and economy of language, where every word must prove its worth. My love of language, however, has helped me find beauty in the written word and instilled in me a deep appreciation of authorship. While these ideals may seem at odds, in actuality, they are symbiotic -- each helping the other to thrive.
